The Department takes great pride in the quality and unique aspects of the program, and is committed to being one of the best articles available in the province. When our students finish the program, they have a well rounded foundation in preparation for the CPLED and a career in law.

Each year the Department is able to provide 10 students (six for Edmonton, four for Calgary) with the opportunity to participate in the program. In addition to these 10 positions, one position is set aside for a student who can article with the Courts.

The hiring process is held in accordance with the Law Society of Alberta regulations.

Screening Criteria: Candidates are interviewed based on grades from their most recent law school transcripts.

Hiring Criteria: The interview plan will assess interpersonal skills, interest, and initiative, as well as academic achievement and activities related to law.

New Hire Back Policy: Upon completion of articles, students who are considered appropriate candidates for permanent positions with Alberta Justice will be offered one year contracts, in the expectation that they will apply for permanent positions as they become available during that year. Many of our students continue on with the Department to pursue rewarding and exciting careers in public service. In fact, in the last five years, 39 out of 51 students stayed on with Alberta Justice after their articles.
