Enforcement questions and answers

What are my options for paying these overdue fines / tickets / forfeitures?
  1. For Criminal Code fines, you normally have three options:
    • Pay in full or make suitable payment arrangements with the Fines Enforcement office.
    • Serve time in prison in lieu of paying – if your type of fine qualifies, you may be able to serve time in a correctional facility to clear the outstanding balance. An application must be made to the originating Court.
  1. For Traffic Fines/Tickets:
    • There are two different types of traffic offence tickets. The type that Fines Enforcement deals with are called “Part 3” offences, and payment in full or payment arrangements are your only payment options for these types of tickets. If you have received a “Part 2” ticket, the Fine Option Program and Time Served may apply in your case. If you wish to request these two options, you should contact the Court office where the conviction occurred.
  1. For Bail Forfeitures:
    • Payment in full or payment arrangements are your only options. The Fine Option Program and Time Served do not apply to bail forfeitures. There is also no appeal process for bail forfeiture debts.
